Public Notice: Wesley Ridge Wildfire (Cameron Lake) – July 31, 2025, 5:50 PM

The District of Ucluelet is aware of the wildfire currently burning on Wesley Ridge, near Cameron Lake. As of 3:45 PM, the fire is classified as out of control and is estimated at approximately 60 hectares in size. District staff are closely monitoring the situation and remain in contact with the appropriate provincial authorities. This is an evolving incident. While Highway 4 is not currently impacted, BC Wildfire is asking all travellers to be mindful of crews working in the area. Please drive with caution, stay focused on the road, and keep traffic moving steadily. Public Notice: Tsunami Advisory Officially Lifted as of July 30, 2025, 7:40 AM

Tsunami Advisory Cancelled for British ColumbiaEffective July 30, 2025, at 7:40 AM The tsunami advisory for the District of Ucluelet has been officially lifted. The advisory followed a magnitude 8.8 earthquake that occurred approximately 80 miles (136 km) southeast of Petropavlovsk, Kamchatka, Russia. There is no longer any threat to public safety, and normal activities along beaches, harbours, and shoreline areas may now safely resume. The District of Ucluelet thanks all residents and visitors for their patience and cooperation during the advisory period.

Update: Seismic Event off the Coast of Russia – Tsunami Advisory Still in Effect

Update: July 29, 2025, 10:20 PM Seismic Event off the Coast of Russia – Tsunami Advisory Issued A large earthquake has occurred in the Pacific Basin near Kamchatka, Russia. As a result, a tsunami advisory remains in effect for the West Coast of Vancouver Island, including the District of Ucluelet. What This Means: – Strong currents and waves may pose a serious risk to those near shorelines and waterways. – Coastal areas, beaches, harbors, estuaries, and low-lying river systems should be considered hazardous until the advisory is lifted. Public Actions Required: – Stay away from the coastline, beaches, docks, and all low-lying waterfront areas. – Please prepare your grab-and-go bags and prepare for a possible evacuation.
