The mayor and council are responsible for establishing policies for the community and adopting bylaws based on these policies.
Elections are held throughout the province every third year on the third Saturday in November. The next election is scheduled for the fall of 2014.
In Canada, the powers of municipal government are delegated by statute to municipalities by the provincial governments. In British Columbia, the Local Government Act and the Community Charter set out the role and function of local municipalities.
COMMUNICATING WITH COUNCIL
If you wish to make a request or share your opinion and ideas with council, you may choose to write to council, make a presentation to council, or asks questions during question period.
Correspondence
All correspondence will be considered by Mayor and Council, usually at the first regular scheduled meeting after receipt. A written response may be provided based on council resolution. Please specificy your intention - are you providing information only, do you have a suggestion or are you asking a specific question or proposing a specific action? Council needs to know what you expect from them.
Making a presentation to Council
There are many instances in which people wish to come before Council to raise concerns or address issues they feel are of importance to the community. Such an appearance before Council is called being a "delegation". People wishing to make a delegation must submit their request in writing to the Administration Department.

Question Period
A question period follows every regular meeting. This provides an opportunity for the public or a member of the press to ask a specific question of Council. You may request clarification on an item considered during the meeting or perhaps just on general civic business.
