Fishing

The waters around Ucluelet are excellent for fishing.  Five species of salmon, including Coho and Chinook, halibut and ling cod are the most popular saltwater fish.  There are also Cutthroat trout in the streams around the area.  Shellfish harvesting is prohibited in national park waters.

A fishing license is necessary.  Saltwater fishing is regulated by the Federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans and freshwater by the Provincial Ministry of the Environment, Fish and Wildlife Branch.

Both types of licenses can be purchased at the following:

  • sporting goods stores
  • marinas
  • department stores
  • government agents
  • local resort operators or guides
  • online at government websites

If you are bringing your own boat or renting a boat locally, ensure that you are very familiar with local weather and ocean conditions.  For further information go to the Marine Facilities page.
